Food for Fuel- An Impractical Tradeoff

Globalization is more than just an economic term for it now encompasses the interdependency of the worlds population in many other ways. As we have seen so dramatically in the last few weeks our economy is an integral part of the worlds financial markets and we must all work together to continue a stable rate of growth and prosperity.

As graduate students in social work we study and examine many issues that affect the world as a whole. We are trading partners in a vast system of international exchange and while, for some short periods of time, the flow of some industrial goods may be interrupted or curtailed, the worlds food supply is an essential of life in many poor countries. When spikes in basic foods make these commodities unavailable peoples lives change dramatically. Malnourishment, especially in the young, leads to starvation, sickness and finally death.

This blog is a place where those who care about the issues of food distribution and world hunger can exchange information of learn of other resources. We believe, that by working together America can address, and with time, become energy independent without creating a food crisis that leaves many of the worlds poorest people without something to eat.
