Work in Progress

There was a lot of work done to get the PowerPoint presentation done. And coordinating schedules, and getting permission to present in classrooms...what a learning experience!!

Pester your friends about corn!

As part of this project, we created a powerpoint presentation that we hope will stimulate discussion about this really complex issue in not so complex language. Feel free to share it with friends, family and fellow students. Click here. to send us an email.

Hi All,
Thanks for using my class as one of your 'beta-test sites.' For what it is worth, here is some feedback/thoughts:
1. About halfway into the slides, there was a story of a little girl affected by NAFTA, etc., and I think the whole concept of relaying data/information through a personal story like this can be very
powerful. My only suggestion would be to build in her story from the start, perhaps, and using it throughout the presentation -- sort of as a "victim/hero" symbol people can relate back to.
2. There was one slide that quoted "Wikipedia" as the source. This is just a personal bias, but I feel that if you can backup your data with a source other than Wiki, it would be more credible...to me, anyway.
3. In the latter half of the presentation when they discussed NAFTA's and the US's corn policy's effects on Mexico's farmers (and about the rise of maquiladoras and WalMart), my first question was whether or not this is a "natural progression" from an agrarian to an industrial to a consumerist society for Mexico. So, however you can more clearly address that would be helpful.
Overall, GREAT project! Best of luck with it.
